We are incredibly proud to announce that Uganda Christian University emerged as Overall Winners at the International Humanitarian Law National Moot Court Competition, organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Uganda Red Cross Society.

The competition, hosted by Makerere University, brought together universities from across the country. After a rigorous round in April, where over 10 universities submitted written memorials, only four institutions advanced to the National Round held on 18th June 2026.

Our outstanding team consisted of:

Oralists:

  • Nali Shakirah – Best Orator
  • Janessa Kirabo Namakula
  • Kakayi Patience Linda

Researchers:

  • Akatambira Sheena
  • Turyatunga Timothy
  • Mulumba Shakim
  • Arinaitwe Alfred

The team delivered exceptional performances across three role sessions and the final oral submissions round.

Their hard work and preparation were rewarded with three major awards:

  • Overall Winners Award
  • Best Memorial Award
  • Best Orator Award

The competition was judged by distinguished legal professionals, including Judges of the High Court, Magistrates, representatives from the Uganda Red Cross, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and the UPDF.

The final round was presided over by Hon. Justice Mike Chibita (Supreme Court of Uganda), Justice Lillian Omara (High Court), and Justice Mohammed Mahdy Elserafy (Legal Adviser, ICRC).

One of the oralists, Nali Shakirah, reflected on the experience: “The competition exposed me to a new field of law, IHL that is so alive to the realities of the world in war time.”

Congratulations to our talented students and their coaches for this remarkable achievement! You have made UCU proud and demonstrated the university’s commitment to excellence in legal education and humanitarian values.
