The alumni of our law program have existed since 2001 when the university released her pioneer law graduates. The School of law was established in 1998, at the first lot of students graduated, 4 years later to become our first alumni.
However, the alumni have not been very vibrant as it is today. This was because they were sucked into the main UCU alumni association. A few years, in 2014, the Uganda Christian University Law Alumni Association was established.
Every year during graduation, the alumni association recognizes the best performing students that year through awarding them. The best student is given an award during community hour, and a one-month internship at Oundo and Company Advocates. The second and 3rd are given a monitory award.
In April 2017, the association funded the Jessup Moot. It was able to sponsor tickets and accommodation fees of the 4 students that represented the School, the university and the country at large, after the university was not able to because of the roads and Mengo Medical School construction projects.
The dean of the School of law is accountable to the association. The association is yet to be involved in administrative matters after it has established a board to which the dean will always report to.
The association will foster growth of our School. It will be required to contribute a fee to the School, once month. These contributions will be in segments of gold, bronze and silver depending on the contributor. This fee would then boost the activities of the School such as the moots, sports days, symposiums, acquire a student’s van, fund financial aid projects and CLE projects, all these intended to have the School financially independent from the main university account.
Today, the capacity is over 2000 students, and the number is growing each year.
The alumni is also an active contributor and helps funds the UCU law society events.
